of here earlier than i've ever seen them leave before. 5:00, 5:30, ready for a big next couple of days. because what they're going to have to do now, they're going to have to pack four months worth of free agent activity into about four days. so obviously, the nfl players, a player rep from each team, 32 guys, met over teleconference today, and agreed to the new labor agreement. so this is done. this morning, players from the executive board met in downtown d.c. at the nflpa headquarters, and after that conference call, they were joined by some owners and league representatives and the deal was done. so some minor details to be worked out. it's going to last for ten years, though. that's the good news. and amazingly, after four and a half months of a work stoppage, the nfl preseason starts almost on time. >> we're happy that we've got an agreement that we have reached. i'll turn it over to roger to say a few words, and -- we'll finish it up. >> well, it's been a long time coming, and football is back, and that's the great news for everybody. i want to thank d. and all of the players fo

it. and that in a nutshell is why a lot of big, moderate players in this town led by president obama do like this bipartisan scheme. with 13 days until possible default, all eyes are on the gang of six senators, three republicans and three democrats. they met today with house democrats. can they craft a deficit deal that can pass congress? lawmakers ask gang of six democrat kent conrad. >> how does this work? where is it headed? >> reporter: like the deficit commission, like president obama, the gang of six has a plan that's balanced. gang of six democrat dick durbin. >> it does it by putting everything on the table. everything. spending cuts, entitlement programs and revenue. >> reporter: $3 trillion in spending cuts, including cuts in medicare and the like. $1 trillion in tax hikes. but not on most americans. >> we're actually reducing tax rates, both on the individual side and the corporate side. >> reporter: that's a move to win over conservatives, like house gop leader eric cantor. >> and so i don't think that raising taxes, increasing tax rates, is the answer. certainly not in

with the expectation or their expectation that you would talk about the debt ceiling and that big issue the president is dealing with right now. but that -- obviously, you had other places that needed to be addressed, as well. >> well, you know, the white house had in mind, the president want to get his message out to the american people. as he has promised those congressional leaders he is going to do, he is going to take his case to the american people with regard to raising the debt and cutting spending and all of the other issues they're talking about. but there are some issues that i think are pretty germane and relevant and important to people in washington and in the washington area. and i kind of had a notion that the president would not mind talking about those things specifically. he's talked a lot about the debt ceiling. he talked about that, and, you know, i kind of figured that folks who are going to be watching "nbc nightly news" right after this broadcast, ey'll get a lot about that on the debt ceiling. but i think there are some other kinds of things that folks in washington want to h

and even a tad relief for some people, doug. >> you know what? more than a tad, wendy. i would say big-time relief for a lot of us out there right now, as we did have some storms roll through. and one of those storms in particular was so strong, it put out a boundary that really helped to cool everybody down. right now on doppler radar, you can see really only one storm around our area. a few storms back towards west virginia, the one in our location right now is right around prince william county around the brentsville region. but notice how it has cooled things down. 94 right now instead of 102 just a couple hours ago. the heat index? down from 121 to 100. we can deal with 100. we dealt with it before. current temperatures out there right now, you can see where the storms were, and where that boundary came through. 88 right now in leesburg. 88 in gaithersburg, but 100 in l plata and culpeper at 102. that's where we're dealing with the very high heat endetection readings. 121 in la plata. 123 in fredericksburg, but into the 90s, so very good news there. we're going continue to see nic

could do that. >> wait until they have the ipad that's that big, you could stand in front of an ipad and kiss it too. i suppose. >> virtual. >>> we better go to weather. >> yes, we do. >> you were right, 93 didn't sound much better when we talked about it today. but it felt better. >> you don't think of waterspouts with pennsylvania, too often. this is erie county, pennsylvania, and this is bear beach just off bear beach, northwestern area of the state. it forms, a strong line of thunderstorms came through yesterday. and it dissipated before it came on to land. of course, around here what we saw was pockets of heavy rain and flash flooding yesterday. our high temperature today 95 degrees after starting out at 76, boy, that sure was nice. the average high 89 degrees, over the next couple days, temperatures are still going to remain above the average high. today, though, the nicest since july 17th, when the humidity was way down too. all that ugly heat, the monster heat is going to return. at the end of the workweek, by week's end. and it's going to stick around for a day or two. 93
